Have you ever heard a Jock Jams song (Jock Jams were compilation albums released between 1995 and 1999)?
Maybe a single song like “I Like to Move It?”
Or the very popular Mega Mix?
These are songs that are sure to inspire and fire up the players at a sporting event as well as the crowd.
Yet, I don’t think the songs should be used only to inspire and fire up sporting events…I think they can be used to help inspire grant writers/grant professionals as well.
Let me explain…I was recently taking part in a Peloton Bike Bootcamp led by one of my favorite instructors, Jess Sims, that was set to a Jock Jams playlist. Phenomenal workout. And as my endorphins were flowing and I was singing along to songs I remembered from my teenage years, I started to think of alternate lyrics that made sense to inspire our Writing Team.
Rather than only share my unique twist on these songs to pump up our awesome Writing Team, I wanted to share it with all of you as well. Here are some of my twists on Jock Jam lyrics to help pump you up for your next big application.
The lyrics in “I Like to Move It, Move It” by Reel 2 Real could become “I Like to Write It, Write It” to help get us excited when opening up a new draft and looking at the blank screen with the blinking cursor for a new application.
The lyrics in Tubthumping by Chumbawamba, “I get knocked down, but I get up again, You are never gonna keep me down,” could become “I get rejected, but I submit again, You are never gonna keep me down!” You guessed it, this could be the song we play for ourselves and our colleagues when a grant rejection is received to pump us back up to dig in on the next application and learn from the rejection to strengthen our next application.
The lyrics of “It Takes Two” by Rob Base & DJ EZ Rock, “It takes two to make a thing go right, It takes two to make it out of sight,” could become “It takes two sets of eyes to make a thing go right, it takes two sets of eyes to get it funded” to remind us to never self-edit our work before submitting to a grantmaker.
Do you have some other Jock Jam lyric twists? Or other “pump up” song lyric twists to share? We’d love to hear – let us know the comments below.
